The Carolina Hurricanes aim to boost their offensive output to maintain the high standards they’ve set over the past month. Their next challenge awaits at home on Thursday as they host the Detroit Red Wings in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Following a 4-1 loss in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, the Hurricanes have struggled to score more than two goals in regulation in three of their last four games.

Head coach Rod Brind’Amour expressed disappointment, stating, “We couldn’t score. We didn’t get to the net… We put up some good shots, but not enough traffic and we made it an easy night for them.”

Despite this setback, Carolina (45-21-7, 97 points) remains in a strong position for home-ice advantage in the first round of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Captain Jordan Staal remains optimistic, acknowledging the team’s recent strong performances.

Meanwhile, Detroit (36-29-7, 79 points) is coming off consecutive losses, including a 4-3 overtime defeat against Washington on Tuesday. However, they remain in contention for a wild-card spot, emphasizing the importance of focusing on the upcoming game against Carolina.

The Hurricanes have won both previous meetings against the Red Wings this season. Goaltender Frederik Andersen is expected to start, maintaining his rotation with Pyotr Kochetkov. Andersen boasts a perfect 6-0-0 record since returning to action earlier this month.

Defenseman Dmitry Orlov, who scored Tuesday’s goal for the Hurricanes, highlighted the importance of timing in joining offensive rushes, contributing to the team’s offensive spark.
