The Coventry manager admits the kids before Blackburn
Coventry City manager Mark Robins has acknowledged that injuries and tiredness in his team may force him to “play the youngsters.”
In order to secure their spot in the Championship for the upcoming campaign, Blackburn Rovers must secure at least a point against the Sky Blues on Saturday. A victory might, depending on other outcomes, mathematically guarantee safety.
Coventry arrives at Ewood Park bruised and broken, whereas Rovers have had a free week. With a 3-2 loss to Hull City on Wednesday night, their season was all but over, and they had little hope of making the playoffs.
After playing Manchester United for 120 minutes in the FA Cup semifinal last weekend, the team was put to the test to the utmost. The club has had an emotionally and physically taxing week.
With three league games left before the season finishes, Robins has to acknowledge that the team is far from healthy. To control the team, the Sky Blues manager acknowledged that he might need to turn to his younger players.
“Fabio Tavares has to see a surgeon about his ankle. Due to ligament injury, we must determine if surgery is necessary for him. That should be completed tomorrow, I believe (Thurs).
He was slammed between two legs, causing ligament damage. Though it was an impact, I believe there were two players vying for the ball at the same moment, and he simply got stuck in between their legs, causing that injury.
Victor Torp was in too much discomfort to play (against Hull) because he had ripped a stomach muscle. It’s where the attachment to his hip is, I believe.
“Binksy had a tight Achilles at half-time and then just felt it in the game and had to go off. I don’t know how bad that is yet. Joel Latibeaudiere picked up a calf problem a while back and has been managing it, and today it has caught up with him a little bit.”
“I don’t know, there’s not long left but potentially yes. Certainly Fabio, potentially Joel and Binksy, I am not sure yet but I wouldn’t be surprised if he missed the rest of the season as well. I am not sure where he is quite at.
“We have another game coming up and it’s Saturday/Tuesday/Saturday and it’s just ridiculous really. If we are going to have to play youngsters as well, then that’s what we are going to have to do.”
