Dom DiSandro, affectionately referred to as ‘Big Dom’ within the Philadelphia Eagles organization, has assumed a new role, although the team maintains that it does not signify a significant change. While currently holding positions as the senior advisor to the general manager and chief security officer, Big Dom has also taken on responsibilities for ‘gameday coaching operations,’ although the exact nature of this role is not fully defined. Despite his official titles, Big Dom holds considerable sway over head coach Nick Sirianni, often providing a calming presence during tense situations.
However, an incident during Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers resulted in Big Dom losing his sideline privileges for the remainder of the 2023 season, a setback that seemed to affect the Eagles’ performance. The Eagles were leading the NFC with a 10-1 record before facing the Niners on December 3rd.

Yet, a confrontation between Big Dom and Niners player Dre Greenlaw led to disciplinary measures against the Eagles’ security chief, and the team’s fortunes took a downturn. The Niners convincingly defeated the Eagles 42-19, denting Philadelphia’s confidence.
Despite maintaining a 10-2 record following the game, the Eagles endured one of the most dramatic collapses in recent NFL history. Throughout the remainder of the season, they only secured one victory, against divisional rivals New York Giants. They also suffered defeats against the Giants in Week 18 and were outmatched by the Arizona Cardinals, who ended the regular season with just four wins. The Eagles’ fortunes worsened as they were ousted from the Wildcard Round of the playoffs, experiencing a humbling 32-9 defeat to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which added to the disappointment of Jason Kelce’s retirement.
Looking ahead to the new season, rumors about Big Dom’s altered role have sparked speculation among fans about potential strategic changes for the Eagles. While his role may not impact the day-to-day operations significantly, one theory suggests that appointing Big Dom to oversee ‘gameday coaching operations’ could allow for a more hands-on involvement on the sidelines, potentially providing leeway within the rules due to his broader role beyond just security chief.
