Marc Roberts has returned to training ahead of Birmingham City’s match against Millwall, providing a potential boost to their central defensive options. Roberts, who had been sidelined for the last two games due to a calf issue, is hoped to be available for selection by interim manager Mark Venus. With Blues captain Dion Sanderson serving a three-game suspension, Emanuel Aiwu was the sole center-back option against Hull City in midweek. Lee Buchanan stepped in alongside Aiwu to address the shortage in defense. However, Roberts’ aerial presence could prove valuable against a Millwall side rejuvenated under Neil Harris.

“Marc has trained today,” Venus disclosed on Thursday. “We have to see how he reacts to training, hopefully he will train again tomorrow and he will hopefully be fit for selection. He is on the training ground so that’s good.”

On the other hand, Krystian Bielik, who had been performing well at center-back before sustaining a groin injury ahead of Blues’ defeat to Ipswich Town, has suffered another setback. The Polish defender trained last week but tore a stomach muscle, ruling him out of contention for Birmingham’s upcoming three games before the international break.
