The Mavs could trade for a $26 million former Celtics stretch five currently with the Raptors.

As the Dallas Mavericks gear up for a deep playoff run, they may be looking to bolster their roster with a key acquisition. Despite holding a respectable 22-17 record and sitting fifth in the Western Conference, the Mavs are aware that the road to the NBA Finals will be anything but smooth, especially with fierce competition from teams like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Memphis Grizzlies, and Houston Rockets.

One potential move that has been floated by NBA analyst Ishaan Bhattacharya from Fadeaway World involves trading for Toronto Raptors center Kelly Olynyk. The 31-year-old big man, known for his offensive versatility, could provide the Mavs with an experienced stretch five option, particularly useful in playoff scenarios where traditional centers might be less effective.

Bhattacharya suggests that Dallas could send Maxi Kleber, Olivier-Maxence Prosper, and a second-round draft pick to the Raptors in exchange for Olynyk. This trade would not only bring an added dimension to Dallas’ frontcourt but also improve their depth, with Olynyk serving as a capable backup to PJ Washington at power forward.

Olynyk, who has one year and $13.4 million left on his contract after this season, brings a skill set that could complement the Mavs’ existing roster, especially in high-stakes playoff matchups. His ability to stretch the floor and contribute offensively would be a valuable asset, particularly if Dallas encounters teams that effectively neutralize their current big men.

The question remains whether the Mavericks should pursue this trade, weighing the benefits of Olynyk’s skill set against the potential disruption of team chemistry by moving long-standing players like Kleber. As the trade deadline approaches, Dallas will have to decide if the potential upside of adding Olynyk outweighs the risks, aiming to solidify their roster for a deep playoff push.
