Will Vaulks, a midfielder for Sheffield Wednesday, expressed his respect for this Owls teammate.

After defeating Bristol City 2-1 last time out, the Owls under Danny Rohl have won three of their last four games to give themselves a three-point cushion to safety.

Additional victories have been achieved against Millwall and Birmingham City, but with the teams surrounding them accumulating points as well, Wednesday will need to win more of their remaining 12 games to avoid the drop.

The crucial match against Rotherham United is coming up, and Vaulks provided another enlightening interview to the media.

Will Vaulks praises Pol Valentin’s advancement on Wednesday in Sheffield
Vaulks covered a wide range of subjects in his press conference today prior to the game.

Pol Valentin, his teammate from Sheffield Wednesday, was also discussed. Xisco Munoz brought the 27-year-old to Hillsborough last summer, and since then, he has made 24 appearances in the Championship.

Since Dominic Iorfa’s injury back in December, Valentin has started the Owls’ last eight league games while playing at right-back.

And Vaulks is impressed, noting also Valentin’s improvement in the last few weeks.

The Welshman expressed:

“Pol has come a long way, in my opinion. Although he has always been physically strong, quick, and an excellent one-on-one defender, I believe his technical skills have improved significantly. Like any player, I believe that if you get a run in the side, which he has been lucky to have (I mean that in the best way), you tend to get better. This is true whether you speak to an experienced player or not. You either sink or swim, and over the past few weeks, I believe Pol has swum.

The Danny Rohl effect

Rohl’s October arrival has seen several individuals pick up their game, with Valentin being one of them.

Di’Shon Bernard has become a top Championship defender under the German. Marvin Johnson’s reemergence in the side is a key story from this season. And others including Valentin, Djeidi Gassama, and Anthony Musaba have really prevailed in the last few months.

Valentin has become a very dependable name on the right. Like Vaulks says, he’s progressed in this run in the XI; he’s been bombing up and the down the flank, with his physical attributes allowing him to get up and down effectively, and also do the defending side of his game well.

Now that Valentin’s contract expires in the summer and Iorfa’s is set to play for another year after this season, Iorfa may have to fight to regain his place in the starting lineup.

This weekend’s match between Rotherham United and Sheffield Wednesday begins at 3 p.m.
