The Boston Red Sox defeated the Minnesota Twins 9-2 on Sunday, ending their 12-game winning streak (box score). After the 1991 team’s 15-game winning streak in June, Minnesota’s 12 straight victories were the second-longest winning streak in Twins franchise history. (That Twins squad, incidentally, defeated the Atlanta Braves in the World Series.)

Over the course of six innings on Sunday, right-handed starter Joe Ryan limited the Red Sox to three runs on four hits and a walk. However, Kody Funderburk and Jay Jackson combined to give up six runs on seven hits and two walks in the seventh inning, showing weakness in Minnesota’s bullpen.

three pictures. Not that it was very important. With at least five runs scored in ten of those twelve wins, the Twins offense was unable to manage more than two runs on Sunday against a lineup that included six Red Sox pitchers.

Six of Minnesota’s nine hits on Sunday came from right fielder Max Kepler, designated hitter Trevor Larnach, and first baseman Carlos Santana. Meanwhile, Ryan Jeffers, thecatcher, hit his sixth home run of the season. Obviously, despite being noteworthy individually, those efforts were insufficient to help the Twins win.

This season, the Twins had the longest winning streak in Major League Baseball at twelve games. No other squad has achieved eight straight victories. As of press time, the Oakland Athletics were behind the Miami Marlins.

At six games, inherited the longest winning streak currently in play.

With a 19-13 record going into Sunday, the Twins were 1 1/2 games behind the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central. Minnesota is now 19-14 overall. With their victory over the Los Angeles Angels, the Guardians increased their lead to 2 1/2 games.

To start a four-game series, the Twins will welcome the Seattle Mariners to town on Monday.

For Minnesota, Trevor Larnach had an RBI single and Ryan Jeffers hit a home run.

After a 15-win run in June 1991—the final World Series season Minnesota had won—the Twins’ 12-game winning streak was tied for the second-longest in team history.

Rafaela gave the team a 3-1 lead in the fifth inning when he crushed a full count offering from Joe Ryan into the first row of bleachers in left center field. On April 27, Rafaela hit the team’s previous round-tripper as Boston defeated the Cubs 17 to 0.

Grissom led the Sox to a 5-1 lead in the eighth inning with a two-run double. Smith was the next batter to reach base and added a two-run double off Manuel Margot’s glove as he battled the sun.

on a clear afternoon of 69 degrees.

In the ninth, Devers struck a two-run home run.

Boston’s starter Cooper Criswell, who required 80 pitches to complete five scoreless innings in each of his previous two outings, gave up one earned run and struck out five in four and a half innings.

The first of five Red Sox relievers, Brennan Bernardino (1-1), picked up the victory.

Ryan (1-2) threw a no-hitter that allowed four hits and three earned runs while striking out five in his team-high sixth quality start of the year.

After Minnesota had a great chance to cause some early damage, Jeffers hit a single home run in the third inning to give the team a 1-0 lead in front of the second-largest home crowd of the season (29,638).

Larnach, Carlos Correa, and Max Kepler eachdoubled to begin the second Minnesota inning, but Criswell got out of the inning after striking out Carlos Santana and Willi Castro. Jose Miranda then hit a harmless bouncer back to Criswell.
