The perspective from Hibernian on the January transfers of Sunderland duo Nectarios Triantis and Elizer Mayenda to the SPL club.

Sunderland permitted Nectarios Triantis and Elizer Mayenda to transfer to SPL side Hibernian in January. However, their experiences since moving to Scotland have been quite different.

Triantis has featured in eight league matches for Hibs, primarily in midfield under head coach Nick Montgomery, who previously managed him at Australian club Central Coast Mariners. Initially deployed in defense, Triantis struggled to adapt but has since excelled after being shifted back to a central defensive midfield role. He’s showcased not only defensive prowess but also comfort on the ball.

Regarding Triantis’s future position, despite competition in central midfield, he has retained his starting role, indicating his importance to the team’s setup.

In terms of fan perception, Triantis’s gradual acceptance among supporters reflects initial apprehension due to his defensive performances but growing appreciation for his midfield contributions.

On the other hand, Mayenda has found opportunities harder to come by, making only two league appearances and featuring in a testimonial match. His late acquisition on deadline day and the presence of established players in his positions have limited his chances. It’s likely that unless circumstances change, he’ll have few opportunities for significant game time this season, mostly making appearances off the bench.
