The Washington Commanders possess the second most coveted pick in the 2024 NFL Draft following the Chicago Bears’ selection of the top overall pick. Brent Solak of The Ringer suggests that the Commanders may have a strong inclination to pursue a trade for the Bears’ pick, primarily because they are keen on acquiring Caleb Williams.

It’s highly probable that Washington, holding the second pick, will consider trade options with Chicago, who currently holds the first pick. The motive behind this potential move is clear: Washington is eager to select Caleb Williams, the quarterback from Washington D.C. who previously played under the guidance of current Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury during his time at USC.

The Bears seem equally resolved to select Williams. Despite having Justin Fields on their roster, there’s speculation he could be traded in the near future. Regardless, it appears highly likely that Williams will be chosen as the first overall pick by the Bears, leaving the Commanders with several excellent quarterback options to consider. Both Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels remain available, offering Washington strong alternatives at the QB position.

Williams expressed his thoughts on the potential of being drafted by the Washington Commanders. For the USC Trojans alum, it would represent a full-circle scenario, given that he was born and raised in Washington D.C.

Williams emphasized his primary goal and focus on winning games and maintaining perspective on the team’s overarching objectives.

During the 2023 NFL season, the Commanders primarily relied on Sam Howell as their starting quarterback. However, Howell’s performance fell short of expectations, leading to him being benched late in the season in favor of Jacoby Brissett.
