Three Eagles Who Could Be Traded During NFL Draft.

on

Regardless of the club you support, Howie Roseman, the general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles, exudes a bravery and confidence that demands admiration. The Eagles have already made some significant moves in the 2024 offseason, demonstrating their refusal to sit back and watch other teams refresh their squad.

In addition to stealing running back Saquon Barkley from their New York rivals, Philadelphia also acquired defensive coordinator Vic Fangio from the Miami Dolphins. Most recently, they dealt Haason Reddick to the New York Jets.

There don’t seem to be many players on this Eagles roster that might still be realistically traded, but don’t rule out Roseman making some moves that would send shockwaves around the NFL. Which players—perhaps some surprising ones—could the Eagles deal at the NFL Draft in 2024?

1. Tanner McKee, QB

With Jalen Hurts as the starting quarterback, the Philadelphia Eagles have been busy this offseason resetting at the position.

They acquired Kenny Pickett, a former first-round choice of the Pittsburgh Steelers, through trade, and they signed Will Grier to a one-year contract in NFL free agency. Tanner McKee, a 2023 sixth-round pick, where does it leave him?

It appears that he may no longer be employed as of right now. Although the Eagles haven’t exactly given McKee the greatest confidence to play as their second or even third quarterback this season, there may still be clubs who are ready to take a chance on him and try him out on a 90-man roster. Given that he has three years of team control and that a few scouts and league executives may have expressed interest in him just a year prior, McKee may be traded for a late-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

2. Dallas Goedert, TE

Assume that Brock Bowers is the top pick this year by the Eagles. It is known that Howie Roseman, general manager of the Eagles, has selected roughly 78 players from Georgia in recent years due to his fondness for them. One of the top prospects the Bulldogs have released in recent years, Brock Bowers, should appeal to him much if he finds the Georgia program to be as appealing as it appears.

Bowers is labeled as a tight end, although he isn’t really an in-line tight end; rather, he is a major weapon in the passing game. What happens if Roseman, who has several second-round picks in this draft, takes a wild swing and chooses Bowers first?

It could mean that a player like Dallas Goedert could be traded if the price is right. The Eagles would have to work out the financials with any team trading for him, but adding Bowers on a rookie deal and shedding the Dallas Goedert contract while taking a bit of a dead money hit in 2024 could be an option on the table for the Eagles.

It might imply that, given the proper price, a player such as Dallas Goedert might be traded. The Eagles could add Bowers on a rookie contract and shed the Dallas Goedert contract while suffering a little financial hit in 2024, but they would have to work out the financials with any team dealing for him.

Even though Goedert has been excellent, someone like Bowers could easily replace him in terms of production, at least in the passing game. Of course, this is a crazy idea, but would you trust Roseman with anything?

3. Nakobe Dean, LB

The Philadelphia Eagles had a difficult season due to injuries and subpar performance at linebacker, and they have already begun taking efforts to make changes to that position group in 2024.

They signed free agent Zack Baun, a special teams player mostly, from the New Orleans Saints. Oren Burks, a former third-round choice of the Packers who enjoyed a somewhat breakout season in 2023 as a rotational player with the San Francisco 49ers, was another guy they took a chance on in NFL free agency.

The Eagles are almost undoubtedly going to prioritize a starting-caliber linebacker in the 2024 NFL Draft where they have three selections in the first two rounds. If that ends up being the case, then I could see them trading away Nakobe Dean to the highest bidder.

Dean fell to the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft after getting some first-round hype, and the Eagles felt like they had an absolute steal on their hands. He could still be a factor at the position this year, but with uncertainty over his health and availability, I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see a team try and trade for the final two years of his deal, and the Eagles possibly oblige if the offer is right and they get a linebacker they want in the first two days of the Draft.
