Top 6 Ranked Transfer Cornerback Commits To Texas Tech Red Raiders

On Saturday, former Mississippi State cornerback Brice Pollock, ranked sixth among players in the transfer portal, announced his commitment to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, a significant pickup for the Power 4 program. The news was shared by On3’s Hayes Fawcett via social media platform X, showcasing the Red Raiders’ strong recruitment under head coach Joey McGuire.

Pollock’s decision comes after Mississippi State endured a challenging 2-10 season under first-year head coach Jeff Lebby, who previously served as Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator. With Pollock’s departure, the Bulldogs have also seen other notable players, including quarterback Michael Van Buren, receiver Kevin Coleman, and safety Christopher Keys, enter the portal.

A native of Snellville, Georgia, Pollock was a three-star recruit in the 2023 class and had chosen Mississippi State over Pittsburgh, NC State, and Georgia Tech. He made an immediate impact in Starkville, appearing in 11 games as a true freshman and 12 in his sophomore season. Over two years, he accumulated 72 tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, and one forced fumble. Despite his contributions, Mississippi State’s defense struggled, ranking among the SEC’s worst in both passing and rushing yards allowed per game.

Pollock’s addition to Texas Tech is part of a broader strategy by McGuire, whose tenure in Lubbock has been marked by consistent bowl appearances and a 23-15 record since 2022. The Red Raiders have also secured commitments from players like receiver Reginald Virgil (Miami, Ohio), corner Dontae Balfour (Charlotte), safety Cole Wisniewski (North Dakota State), and offensive lineman Hunter Zambrano (Illinois State).

Texas Tech’s next challenge is the Liberty Bowl, where they will face Arkansas on December 27. With Pollock now part of their roster, the Red Raiders aim to further strengthen their defense and maintain their upward trajectory under McGuire’s leadership. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET, and fans can catch the game on ESPN.
