Trade Plan lands former 1st-Round WR  for the Vikings to replace K.J. Osborn

Following K.J. Osborn’s departure, the Minnesota Vikings still have problems at wide receiver, but Treylon Burks of the Tennessee Titans may be able to shed some light.

Tyler Forness of Sporting News pushed the Vikings to submit an offer for the wide receiver from the Titans, who was chosen with the 18th overall pick in the 2022 draft.

“By sending A.J. Brown to the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2022 NFL Draft and then counting on Burks to take over, the Titans may have made a grave error. Given that Burks was inexperienced when he left Arkansas, his first two years haven’t gone well. Forness reported on May 13 that “they were using him as a YAC guy, getting him screens and fake touches along with go balls down the field, using his athleticism and size to win.”
Despite having excellent size-speed characteristics at 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, Burks was considered a raw prospect when he came out of Arkansas. Although his progress hasn’t gone as planned in Tennessee, Keenan McCardell, one of the top wide receiver coaches in the league, is a Viking and might help him in Minnesota.

Burks has averaged 332.5 yards receiving and 24.5 receptions across two complete seasons. He has also scored one touchdown. Despite collecting 16 receptions for 221 receiving yards previous season, he suffered a decrease in target share.
A deal for Burks would probably include a seventh- and a fifth-round pick, matching the combination the Vikings sent the Eagles in exchange for Jalen Reagor. This is because of Burks’ production and draft stock.

Following Osborn’s March signing with the New England Patriots, the Vikings will compete for the third wide receiver spot at training camp.

Titans’ Treylon Burks Has A.J. Brown Upside

Burks was picked by the Titans after trading for Brown, which makes sense given that Burks was compared to Brown by NFL.com as a collegiate player.

“Big, smooth, and natural, Burks has the adaptability to work from any location and get anywhere you need to go, regardless of the opposition. Though his speed testing at the NFL Scouting Combine did not live up to expectations, he is a mismatch receiver who combines size, strength, and competitiveness comparable to A.J. Brown of the Titans, according to NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein.
Burks is large enough to gain an advantage in any part of the field, but he hasn’t yet appeared to take advantage of his stature at the next level. Burks’ field of attack was limited by the Titans, who still hadn’t decided how best to utilize him.

“There’s no reason to think NFL play-callers won’t gain from giving the ball to Arkansas from a variety of alignments—he did well doing so. After a rather underwhelming performance at the combine, Zierlein continued, “The tape is incredibly exciting with real NFL skills jumping off the screen, but his potential to become a high-volume, three-level target is a little more cloudy.”
