A few seasons ago, Cavan Biggio, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., and Bo Bichette were seen as the future core of a young Blue Jays team with championship potential. However, at this stage of his career, Biggio is focused on reestablishing himself in the Major Leagues. After being designated for assignment by the Blue Jays, the Dodgers swiftly acquired the 29-year-old infielder/outfielder, striking a deal with Toronto for Minor League pitcher Braydon Fisher.

Biggio expressed gratitude for joining the Dodgers, especially after spending many years and building relationships in Toronto. Despite early success as a rookie in 2019 and a solid showing in the shortened 2020 season, Biggio has struggled to maintain consistent offensive production since then. However, the Dodgers are optimistic about unlocking his potential with some adjustments.

Manager Dave Roberts believes Biggio’s ability to control the strike zone and hit to all fields could be leveraged with the Dodgers. Biggio made his debut with the team, starting at third base and getting his first hit in front of his Hall of Fame father, Craig Biggio. While initially expected to fill in temporarily for the injured Max Muncy, Biggio’s role may become more permanent as Muncy’s recovery progresses slower than anticipated.

Biggio is expected to primarily start against right-handed pitchers, with Kiké Hernández and Miguel Rojas also seeing time at third base against left-handed pitchers. Meanwhile, outfielder Miguel Vargas, who showed promise offensively, was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City to get consistent playing time for his development.

Despite recent struggles, Biggio remains confident in his abilities and is eager to prove himself with the Dodgers.
