TRANSFER NEWS: LAWRENCE SHANKLAND MAY FIT RANGERS MORE BUT WOULD LOVE TO SIGN FOR CELTIC

Oh Hyeon-Gyu learned the hard way that it is far easier said than done to remove Kyogo Furuhashi from the Celtic starting lineup a year after his £2.5 million January arrival.

Despite a rather patchy performance over the past several months, Kyogo is still essentially the first name on The Hoops roster, with Oh sitting on the bench. Even said, if Celtic called in the last few hours of the January transfer window, Lawrence Shankland would not hesitate to bite Rodgers’ arm off at the elbow in order to secure a spot as the team’s backup center forward.

That’s at least how former Old Firm hitman Kenny Miller sees it.

Rangers and Celtic are connected with Lawrence Shankland

“I doubt there would be any persuasion to proceed there,” Miller states to Clyde SuperScoreboard.
“At this point in his career, Lawrence Shankland would want to take action if he saw one of the Old Firm members approach him. Brendan Rodgers is the kind of manager he would like to work for. For him, that would be a huge benefit.

“(Rodgers) has an outstanding history of elevating athletes to new heights. He wouldn’t need much persuasion, in my opinion.

Miller, who had a legendary Scottish Premiership career playing for both Rangers and Celtic, does question whether Ibrox is a better fit than Parkhead. Even with Cyriel Dessers’ recent uptick in goal scoring, Rangers lack a center-forward with Kyogo’s truly exceptional skill set.

Would Rangers be a better fit?

“I simply believe that the Rangers offer him more opportunities,” Miller continues. “Because they are without a Kyogo.”

Shankland is said to be worth approximately £3 million. He has not yet agreed to a new contract with Hearts; his present one is set to expire in about 18 months (BBC Sport). The forward, who was born in Glasgow, scored 28 goals the previous year and is only a few goals short of 20 this one.

However, it doesn’t seem probable that Celtic will try to test Hearts’ resolve before tomorrow’s transfer deadline. It is anticipated that Adam Idah, a fellow striker, would join on loan from Norwich City.
