Leeds £11 million United star may depart as per the club’s line-up agreement.

In the summer, Bundesliga team Borussia Mönchengladbach hopes to extend their existing loan agreement for Leeds defender Max Wober.

It says a lot about the caliber of play at the top of the Championship this year that one of the Whites’ loanees is proving to be a more than capable player in the German first division while Leeds play in the English second division.

Due to his impressive performance on loan, the temporary team hopes to have the player return permanently in the summer.

Max Wober might sign a summer contract with Mönchengladbach

Gladbach Live reports that the Bundesliga team will try to make Wober’s current temporary move permanent during the summer transfer window. The Austrian defender is scheduled to return to Elland Road at the end of the current campaign after joining the German team during the previous summer transfer window.

Gladbach Live went on to say that they have made it known that they intend to pursue the 26-year-old after his loan is over. The loan-to-buy option is not present in the current agreement.

Everyone at Mönchengladbach is aware that a deal for the defender would not come cheap. Leeds acquired Wober for a reported £11 million in January 2023, according to Sky Sports. The Championship team won’t want to let Wober go for less than £11 million because of this and the fact that he still has more than three years left on his deal with the Whites.

The tenure of Max Wober at Mönchengladbach
The Austrian international has been one of the team’s shining stars despite its poor performance. They are currently seven points above the relegation play-off spot, in 12th place out of the 18 teams in the league.

In the 2023–24 season, Wober has been the team’s best defender in the league, based on Sofascore’s average match rating. Despite his injury history, the center defender has only missed five of the team’s 23 Bundesliga games this year. He’s contributed three assists and one goal to those games. According to Sofascore, the 26-year-old has also been the team’s best player in terms of tackles won, interceptions, and clearances made per game.

Leeds should consider accepting Max Wober’s loan.
Without Wober, things are going great for Daniel Farke’s team. They are currently six points behind the league leaders, Leicester City, and in second place in the Championship table, tied with Ipswich Town on points.

They don’t have to be avaricious; certainly, bringing the Austrian back and reintroducing him into the mix would give a defensive team that is already playing well greater depth and skill. They already have Charlie Cresswell and Pascal Struijk signed to lengthy contracts; they might also consider offering Liam Cooper a new contract and making a permanent move for Joe Rodon. Wober wouldn’t need to be added to that, especially if you can acquire him for more than £10 million.

That kind of money would be invaluable for Leeds, whether or not they are promoted. They might go and bolster the team’s depth in order to try to stay in the Premier League or mount another fierce campaign to get up from the Championship.

Keeping Wober around would seem excessive until he returns to Elland Road in the summer and truly impresses Farke during pre-season training, especially given the possibility of making money with him.
