Bakinson began the 2023/24 Championship season with Sheffield Wednesday, appearing in 10 games across all competitions and scored his only goal in an EFL Cup win over Stockport County. However, he was loaned out to League One club Charlton Athletic in January, where he spent the rest of the season. Bakinson played in midfield and scored once in 15 league games, the goal coming in a 3-1 victory over Cheltenham Town in March.

According to Football Transfers, Bakinson is in advanced talks with Wycombe Wanderers about a prospective move, while former loan club Charlton Athletic is apparently interested in a permanent deal for the midfielder. Charlton manager Nathan Jones handed Bakinson his professional debut while the two were at Luton Town, but Wycombe’s new owners are apparently looking to construct a promotion-contending squad ahead of the new season.

Bakinson has Championship and League One experience, as well as promotion experience, making him a desirable target for clubs this summer. The 25-year-old appeared in 25 games across two levels last season and can play in a variety of middle-of-the-field positions, which would add to Wycombe’s options this summer.

Similarly, Bakinson is available on a free transfer, making him a low-risk acquisition for the Chairboys, and beating another League One side to his signature might give the club confidence for the rest of the summer.
