Kylian Mbappe expresses affection for his compatriot
Much of the conversation leading up to Thursday’s game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the San Antonio Spurs focused on the highly anticipated showdown between Victor Wembanyama and Chet Holmgren. The two young players are at the top of the NBA’s rookie ladder because of their similar statures and adaptable skill sets.
But Wembanyama prevailed in his battle on Thursday. With his 28 points, 13 rebounds, seven assists, and five blocked shots, Wembanyama led the Spurs to an exciting victory. With fewer than two minutes left in the fourth quarter, he blocked Holmgren in a clutch play that capped off an incredible night for him.

Among his accomplishments are being the first player in NBA history to record a 20-20 game at the age of 19 and scoring a triple-double of 20 points and 10 blocks in less than 30 minutes of action.
The Spurs ended their losing run after their victory on Thursday, regaining the win column. Even though they still have a lot of work ahead of them, defeating a team as strong as the Thunder demonstrates the untapped potential of this young San Antonio squad.
