Jarvis Thornton and Reece Johnson, two young Sheffield Wednesday players, are well-liked at Middlewood Road.

The 18-year-old pair have been at the club for a considerable amount of time, having progressed through the youth ranks. It was reported last week that they had been offered professional contracts at Hillsborough, following their recent 18th birthday.

Attack-minded midfielder Thornton and left defender Johnson have been mainstays this season, helping Wednesday’s U18s secure a third-place finish in the Professional Development League. The former was also a major contributor to the U21s, who finished in the same level, as well.

The Star has learned that the players and the club have now reached an understanding. As they aim to advance in the 2024–2025 season, the young players will shortly sign their first professional contracts at S6.

The other U18 players who were offered pro terms this summer ahead of the upcoming season were Bruno Fernandes, Jack Phillips, and Devlan Moses; the Owls will be hoping that all three stay on to be involved—Tyrrell Dawes and Carlos Rodrigues were released.

Recently, Wednesday’s academy ranks have seen some success: Pierce Charles has established himself as a regular in senior sessions, and Bailey Cadamarteri has advanced into the first squad. As a result of their S6 improvement, both players have been called up to the national team.
