Texas Tech head coach Grant McCasland has been chosen to join the coaching staff of the 2024 USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Team. USA Basketball officially announced the coaching lineup for the 2024 USA Men’s U18 National Team, which will be led by Arizona head coach Tommy Lloyd. McCasland will serve as an assistant coach alongside Notre Dame head coach Micah Shrewsberry.

Expressing his excitement, McCasland said, “Being a part of USA Basketball is something you dream about growing up. To represent our country coaching basketball is humbling and a great honor.”

The coaching staff selections for the USA Men’s U18 National Team were made by the USA Basketball Junior National Team Committee and were approved by the USA Basketball Board of Directors.

Lloyd, McCasland, and Shrewsberry will guide the team at the 2024 FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup, with the tournament date and location to be announced by FIBA at a later date.

McCasland, currently in his first season at Texas Tech, has led the No. 15-ranked Red Raiders to a 16-4 record. He previously coached at UNT, where he achieved notable success, including three Conference USA titles and their first NCAA Tournament victory.

Lloyd, who took over as head coach at Arizona in 2021, has set NCAA records with 61 victories in his first two seasons. He was named National Coach of the Year in 2022 and served as a court coach for the 2022 USA Men’s U18 National Team.

Shrewsberry, in his first season at Notre Dame, brings a wealth of coaching experience from the NBA and college ranks. His coaching journey includes head coaching stints at Pennsylvania State University and Indiana University South Bend. He will be making his USA Basketball coaching debut after serving as a court coach for the 2023 U19 National Team.

The FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup is held every two years, with the USA having won 10 gold medals, including six consecutive victories.
