Texas Tech has secured its ninth commitment for the 2025 class with the addition of Michael Henderson. The versatile athlete from Wylie East High School in Texas, standing at 5-foot-9 and weighing 185 pounds, excels both as a running back and safety. Henderson publicly announced his commitment to the Red Raiders on social media.

Renowned for recruiting top-tier athletes, Texas Tech places a premium on versatility in its players. Henderson, who received an offer from Texas Tech just last month on Christmas Day, chose the Red Raiders over reported offers from Mississippi Valley State and Texas State. Despite lacking a current rating, Henderson has demonstrated impressive performances on both offense and defense. In his sophomore year in 2022, he accumulated 56 tackles, six stops for loss, four pass breakups, and six interceptions, including two pick-sixes. As a junior, Henderson showcased his offensive prowess by running for 657 yards and scoring 10 touchdowns, while also contributing defensively with 37 tackles, two stops for loss, and two interceptions in 11 games.

Texas Tech’s 2025 recruiting class, currently ranked 27th nationally and fourth in the new Big 12, underscores the emphasis on acquiring high school talents. Head coach Joey McGuire outlined the plan to bring in between 18 and 20 high school recruits for the 2025 class, aiming to construct a roster that strikes a balance between experienced players and young talents capable of making significant contributions on both the offensive and defensive lines. McGuire emphasized the ongoing transition toward having more seasoned players in crucial positions on the team.
