Victor Wembanyama, a first-year sensation, maintained his amazing rookie season on Thursday, defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder 132-118 while recording an NBA first.

Wembanyama became the first player to record at least 25 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, five blocks, and five three-pointers in a game when he faced up against Chet Holmgren, a fellow contender for Rookie of the Year.

Wembanyama ended with a total of 28 points, making 9 of 17 field goals and 5 of 7 three-pointers. He also added 13 rebounds, 7 assists, and 5 blocks.

On defense, the Spurs sensation was unstoppable. He turned down Thunder point guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander on back-to-back plays early in the game, then blocked Holmgren again in the closing minutes of play.

Wembanyama was also a nightmare on the offensive glass in the closing six minutes of Thursday’s game, finishing with six points, three rebounds, two assists, and a block to help the Spurs go on a 16-5 run.

In his speech to the home crowd following the victory, Wembanyama expressed his enthusiasm for the team’s first home game since February 3 and led the “Go, Spurs, go” shout at the Frost Bank Center.

“I love this [stuff]; I missed it,” Wembanyama exclaimed. “It escaped my notice. Returning back from the road trip with over 16,000 of my closest friends and family while having fun in the game. The greatest sensation.”

Wembanyama’s fantastic evening continued his recent hot streak. He had just made NBA history by being the first player, rookie or not, to record five or more blocks and at least one three-pointer in three straight games going into Thursday’s matchup against the Thunder.
