In a recent four-round mock draft conducted by Sports Illustrated, the Green Bay Packers opted to bolster their defensive backfield by selecting Iowa defensive back Cooper DeJean with their first pick. Despite DeJean’s absence from the Scouting Combine due to a broken fibula, he was touted by Luke Easterling as one of the most versatile and athletic prospects in the draft class. With uncertainties surrounding Eric Stokes’ injury and the free-agent status of several defensive backs, DeJean addresses a significant need for the Packers.

In the second round, the Packers selected Texas A&M linebacker Edgerrin Cooper and Connecticut guard Christian Haynes. The transition to a 4-3 defensive scheme under new coordinator Jeff Hafley necessitates another linebacker, while the potential departure of right guard Jon Runyan in free agency highlights the need for depth on the interior offensive line.

48 Days Until NFL Draft: Four-Round Mock Starts With DeJean

The third round saw the Packers continue to bolster their defense with two additional picks. Finally, in the fourth round, they added USC running back MarShawn Lloyd. Despite being undersized at 5-foot-8 3/4, Lloyd brings power to the backfield, complemented by impressive speed with a 40-yard dash time of 4.48 seconds. During his tenure at USC, Lloyd amassed 820 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, boasting an impressive 7.1-yard average per carry.

Overall, the Packers focused on addressing key needs on both sides of the ball in this mock draft, aiming to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season.

33RD TEAM (2 ROUNDS): IOWA DB COOPER DEJEAN

In a two-round mock draft conducted by The 33rd Team’s Ian Valentino, the Green Bay Packers once again opted to select Cooper DeJean. Despite the availability of quality blockers, Valentino noted that the lack of talent in the defensive backfield beyond Jaire Alexander made it difficult to overlook the opportunity to bolster the secondary with DeJean. Whether deployed as a cornerback, slot defender, or safety, DeJean is expected to provide an upgrade to the Packers’ defense.

In the second round, the Packers focused on bolstering their offense. They selected West Virginia center Zach Frazier, who would compete with Sean Rhyan at right guard in 2024 and could potentially replace center Josh Myers in 2025. Additionally, running back Jonathon Brooks, who is making a strong comeback from a torn ACL, was selected. Brooks has the potential to serve as the No. 2 running back in 2024 and could eventually step into the No. 1 role when Aaron Jones’ productivity declines.

Overall, the Packers addressed key areas of need in both the defensive backfield and the offense in this two-round mock draft, aiming to strengthen their roster for future seasons.

USA TODAY: OFFENSIVE LINE CONSENSUS

In a two-round mock draft conducted by The 33rd Team’s Ian Valentino, the Green Bay Packers once again secured Cooper DeJean to address the deficiency in their defensive backfield. Valentino highlighted the lack of depth beyond Jaire Alexander, making DeJean’s versatility and upgrade potential a compelling choice.

The Packers opted for offensive picks in the second round. They selected West Virginia center Zach Frazier, who could compete with Sean Rhyan at right guard in 2024 and potentially succeed center Josh Myers in 2025. Additionally, running back Jonathon Brooks, who is impressively recovering from a torn ACL, was chosen. Brooks could serve as the No. 2 option in 2024 and eventually step into the No. 1 role when Aaron Jones’ productivity declines.

In another mock draft by Victoria Hernandez, the Packers chose Oklahoma’s Tyler Guyton with the intention of eventually replacing David Bakhtiari and bolstering Jordan Love’s confidence as he continues to develop.

These mock drafts suggest the Packers’ focus on shoring up their defensive backfield and grooming offensive talent to maintain competitiveness and support the team’s future success.

PRO FOOTBALL NETWORK: IOWA DB COOPER DEJEAN

While Cooper DeJean is capable of contributing at multiple positions, Joe Broback of PRO FOOTBALL NETWORK noted that it will be intriguing to observe how quickly DeJean can adapt to playing safety at the professional level.

DETROIT LIONS: MISSOURI CB ENNIS RAKESTRAW

Lions beat writer Tim Twentyman opted for Rakestraw, described as a “tough and physical cornerback,” despite his underwhelming performance at the Scouting Combine.

ACTION NETWORK: ALABAMA CB KOOK-AID KCKINSTRY

The gambling-based website chose McKinstry and sent DeJean to the Steelers at No. 20. They then opted for the sticky Crimson Tide cornerback at No. 25. Notable players still available on the board included Duke’s Graham Barton, Arizona’s Jordan Morgan, and Georgia’s Kamari Lassiter.

DRAFTKINGS: RECEIVER!

Sticking with the gambling sites, Nick Simon opted for LSU receiver Brian Thomas. However, considering Thomas’ college production and impressive performance at the Scouting Combine, this selection seems unlikely. Moreover, Green Bay’s depth at receiver and their historical tendency to avoid selecting receivers in the first round further calls into question this choice. Oklahoma offensive tackle Tyler Guyton and Duke offensive lineman Graham Barton remained available on the board as potential alternatives.
