TRENDING: Sheffield Wednesday received an unexpected setback in their battle for survival when a QPR player, who was sentenced to a year in prison, dealt them a blow.

A crucial contribution from a man serving a year in prison somewhat dampened the significance of Sheffield Wednesday’s crucial victory against Bristol City last Saturday.

Wednesday secured their third victory in four matches, bolstering their bid for survival and narrowing the gap on safety to just three points from four. However, the progress would have been even greater if not for other teams in the relegation battle, such as Huddersfield Town and Millwall, who unexpectedly won against Watford and Southampton respectively.

Another contender in the relegation struggle, QPR, rallied from behind to defeat bottom-ranked Rotherham United 2-1, lifting them out of the relegation zone at the expense of Stoke City, who now find themselves alongside Wednesday and Rotherham in the drop zone.

QPR’s triumph was partly fueled by the performance of Moroccan international Ilias Chair, who recently received a one-year prison sentence with an additional year suspended for his involvement in a 2020 altercation in France. Despite this legal situation, QPR clarified in a statement that the legal proceedings are ongoing.

Chair has initiated an appeals process and remains eligible to play for QPR until a final decision is reached. The skilled attacker played a key role in the match, starting the game and providing the assist for Chris Willock’s winning goal in the 75th minute.

Following the match, QPR manager Marti Cifuentes commented on the situation, stating, “The club has already issued a clear statement regarding the matter. He is an available player, delivered a strong performance, and is a significant asset for us. I prefer not to delve further into this topic; I am pleased with the team’s overall performance.”
