Unexpected news: Kentucky standout Tyrese Maxey has revealed his departure from the team to…

Today, I learned that pre-college basketball players have their own podcasts, where they discuss basketball, pop culture, and sometimes their personal lives. It’s become quite popular these days. Why am I bringing this up? Because I also just found out that incoming UNC freshman Ian Jackson hosts a podcast called The Captain Jack Podcast. Recently, he talked about his desire to play college basketball at Kentucky but ultimately chose the Tar Heels.

When asked why he picked UNC, Jackson cited Hubert Davis. He explained that while he initially wanted to go to Kentucky, it was Davis’s character and coaching style that drew him to UNC. Although John Calipari is also a respected coach, Jackson felt a stronger connection with Davis.

It’s not uncommon for players to discuss their “dream schools” after committing elsewhere. However, what’s noteworthy here is that Jackson intends to be a one-and-done player but still chose to play for Davis, despite his less extensive track record in sending players to the NBA compared to Calipari.

Jackson’s decision to trust Davis could greatly benefit UNC in recruiting future top-tier players. However, Davis will need to prove himself in developing one-and-done talent. Fortunately, Jackson and Davis have already discussed their shared goal and how to achieve it.
