Jordan Staal and Evgeny Kuznetsov found the net just over three minutes apart in the third period, propelling the Carolina Hurricanes to a 4-1 victory over the New York Rangers in Game 5 of the second-round playoff series. The Hurricanes mounted a stunning comeback with four goals in the final period, extending their playoff hopes for the second consecutive game.

Contributing to Carolina’s remarkable third-period surge, Jordan Martinook and Martin Necas also scored goals, while Frederik Andersen, who has been the starting goalie for the majority of the series, made 20 saves.

Despite Jacob Trouba’s short-handed goal for New York and Igor Shesterkin’s 24 saves, the Rangers suffered their second consecutive defeat after initially leading the series 3-0.
