The Milwaukee Bucks are in need of defensive improvement, especially given their performance in the regular season. To address this, the team’s management could pursue Kris Dunn from the Utah Jazz during the offseason. Dunn entered the NBA in 2016 when the Minnesota Timberwolves drafted him as the fifth overall pick. Despite initial hopes for him to excel as their starting point guard, he struggled particularly on offense. Subsequently, he was part of a trade to the Chicago Bulls in 2017, where he primarily served as a bench player until his contract expired in 2020.
Dunn then moved between various teams like the Atlanta Hawks, Portland Trail Blazers, and eventually found a role with the Utah Jazz, where he excelled as a reserve point guard. His tenure with the Jazz showcased his ability to contribute significantly on both ends of the court, proving his value beyond his contract for the past two seasons.

The Bucks’ defensive struggles became apparent after trading Jrue Holiday for All-Star point guard Damian Lillard. Despite efforts such as adding Patrick Beverley and hiring defensive-minded coach Doc Rivers, Milwaukee’s defensive performance remained disappointing throughout the season.
To tackle this issue, the Bucks could pursue Kris Dunn in the offseason, as outlined in an article by Dalton Sell for Behind the Buck Pass. Sell highlighted that while Beverley was a solid addition post-trade deadline, his return to the team is uncertain, especially considering his desire for a higher salary.
If Beverley doesn’t return, Dunn could be a suitable replacement, given his defensive prowess and versatility, as noted by Yahoo Sports insider Jake Fischer. Dunn’s resurgence with the Utah Jazz showcased his ability to excel as a pesky defender and capable guard, making him a potentially valuable asset for the Bucks.
Acquiring Dunn on a team-friendly deal could offer numerous benefits for the Bucks, providing them with a reliable backcourt defender and a capable point guard when needed. While it’s uncertain whether the front office will pursue Dunn, the potential benefits of doing so could outweigh the risks in the long term.
