Cincinnati is facing unfortunate news with just over two months left until the start of a new season. Dontay Corleone, a defensive lineman for the Bearcats, is currently sidelined indefinitely due to blood clots in his lungs, as confirmed by the program on Friday.

According to Aaron Himmler, the senior associate athletic director for sports medicine at Cincinnati, Corleone sought medical attention after experiencing chest pain and difficulty breathing.

Following tests conducted at the UC Medical Center, it was determined that he had blood clots in both lungs. Fortunately, Corleone’s recovery is progressing well, and there is optimism that he will be able to resume playing football in the near future. After spending one night in the hospital, Corleone was discharged on June 14 and has been recovering at home since then.

Despite his absence, Corleone, also known as “The Godfather,” has been recognized with all-conference accolades in both the AAC and the Big 12. Cincinnati is scheduled to kick off its season against Towson on August 31. In a statement, Corleone expressed his focus on recovery and his desire to return to the field as soon as possible, while also committing to supporting the team in a leadership role during his rehabilitation.
