The NFL Scouting Combine will provide the youngest athlete in the NFL draft pool an opportunity to showcase their skills in front of league scouts and other personnel.

Add offensive tackle Tanor Bortolini and off-ball linebacker Maema Njongmeta to the list of three former University of Wisconsin football players who accepted invites to the combine: Braelon Allen. Taking place at Lucas Oil Field in Indianapolis from February 29 to March 3, the combine is scheduled to air on NFL Network.

Allen, a Fond du Lac native who turned 20 this month, will want to respond to inquiries about his top end speed at the combine by showcasing his strength and athleticism. Having not been invited to any all-star showcases this winter, Allen will be performing for NFL personnel for the first time since the Badgers’ 28-14 victory against Minnesota in November at the Indianapolis event.

Allen was Wisconsin’s starting running back for three seasons. This season, despite missing around two and a half games due to a severe ankle sprain against Ohio State, he ran for 984 yards and scored 12 touchdowns. With 3,494 rushing yards at the end of his Wisconsin career, he is eighth all-time in program history. Among Wisconsin rushers to play in just three seasons, he is ranked second only to Jonathan Taylor.

At the end of his Wisconsin career, Allen averaged 5.9 yards per carry. Among Badgers running backs with at least 1,000 career rushing yards, that puts him in sixth place all-time.

Bortolini is coming off a strong showing for the National Team in a 16-7 victory at the Reese’s Senior Bowl, when he started at both guard and center positions. In his 35 games with the team, he has played tight end, guard, and tackle in addition to starting center for the Badgers last season.

Njongmeta led Wisconsin in tackles in 2022 and captained the squad the previous season. With 158 tackles, 20 for loss, 6.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, three passes defensed, and one interception, he concluded his five-year tenure at Wisconsin.
