UPDATE: Eagles Jordan Mailata Says, “Someone Has to Go.”

The NFL’s top team, the Philadelphia Eagles, began the season 10-1, but even with their victories, there were signs of trouble that, if left unchecked, would lead to worse times down the road.

Despite Eagles coach Nick Sirianni’s best efforts to shake things up, the inevitable doom eventually arrived, and Philadelphia ended the season on the losing end of a Wild Card Round game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who had just won the worst division in football history.

“I think when the season ends the way it did, there has to be a finger pointed somewhere,” Eagles tackle Jordan Mailata said to the Philadelphia Inquirer. “That’s just how the cards are played. I don’t know what happened. Very rarely do they talk to us players about it. But when you see that kind of [losing] happening, somebody has to [go]. It’s the nature of the business.”

More changes have been implemented, with former offensive coordinator Brian Johnson among those departing, whether voluntarily or not.

Johnson’s tenure as offensive coordinator under Sirianni lasted only one season, as he stepped in to replace Shane Steichen, who had been hired by the Indianapolis Colts following the Eagles’ Super Bowl run the previous season.

His departure occurred during the offseason, whereas Sirianni effectively took over defensive coordinator responsibilities during the season, albeit unofficially. Matt Patricia, who replaced Desai, is also no longer with the team, marking three significant coaching changes since the season’s conclusion.

The departure of two coordinators in a single offseason was perhaps not given the weight it deserved initially, as many believed Sirianni capable of leading the team to success with new additions from the existing talent pool.

However, this assumption has proven to be incorrect.

Philadelphia has now opted for more seasoned coordinators, with Kellen Moore taking charge of the offense and Vic Fangio leading the defense.

Both Moore and Fangio are expected to require minimal guidance, if any, which is advantageous given Sirianni’s apparent skills are better suited for tasks such as serving coffee to disgruntled fans and making less-than-diplomatic gestures towards opposing sidelines.
