Everton’s Ashley Young has sparked controversy among Nottingham Forest fans with a sharp remark on social media following Sunday’s contentious match at Goodison Park.

Young found himself at the center of three incidents that Forest argued should have led to penalties in their favor. However, referee Anthony Taylor dismissed their appeals on each occasion, with VAR Stuart Attwell not intervening to review the decisions.

After Forest’s 2-0 defeat, the club expressed their frustration with a strongly worded statement, highlighting what they deemed “three extremely poor decisions.”

This statement ignited a flurry of discussions among fans and pundits, prompting Young to weigh in with his own response. He posted an image referencing Justin Timberlake’s song “Cry Me a River,” accompanied by two winking emojis and the caption: “Old Skool Tunes For Today.”

In reaction to Young’s post, one Forest supporter humorously suggested that the defender might have been better off listening to Britney Spears’ “Oops!… I Did It Again.” They quipped, “Fair play… might have been best going with – Britney. You could even have it on 3 x repeat..”

Following the game, Young reiterated his belief that none of Forest’s penalty claims were justified. When asked by Sky Sports about the decisions, he maintained, “All of them were right. None of them were given, were they? I think they (Forest) were claiming for everything. I think the referee was spot on.”
