UPDATE: Preview: Coventry City vs. Norwich City: lineups, team news, and predictions

With just three points separating the two teams in the standings, Norwich City and Coventry City will play each other in the Championship on Saturday afternoon.

The visitors to Carrow Road now hold the final playoff berth, while the home team is in ninth place.

David Wagner would have worried that his Norwich team was in the wrong place at the wrong time on Sunday as soon as his longtime buddy Jurgen Klopp announced that he was leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

Wagner would have found solace in the fact that the Canaries scored twice at the home of the Premier League leaders despite the Canaries losing 5-2 at Anfield in the FA Cup fourth round.

In stark contrast, Norwich has lost its last three league games by 1-0 scores, and they have now gone eight games without scoring more than twice in a single match.

Positively, though, the East Anglian team has maintained its competitiveness in a fiercely contested playoff race thanks to victories against playoff opponents Hull City and West Bromwich Albion in January.

Although it is understandable that the most recent close loss at Leeds United did not help, Norwich is still ranked in the top 10 and has not lost at Carrow Road since November 5.

They now play Coventry, one of the best teams in English football, who have a 12-game winning streak across all competitions.

The Sky Blues’ only loss in 16 games occurred on December 2 at second-place Ipswich Town, by a score of 2-1, and under Mark Robins, Coventry’s comeback has shown no signs of abating.

Since December 23, the team has accumulated 17 points out of a possible 21. On Tuesday night, a late equalizer against Bristol City allowed the team to earn one of two draws.

Next week, Coventry will negotiate a fourth-round FA Cup replay against Sheffield Wednesday. They may also have to contend with a potential last-16 matchup with non-league Maidstone United.

Even yet, Robins understands that Coventry needs to make the most of their schedule, which keeps them from playing a side in the top nine until March, even though there is a genuine chance that a quarterfinal position could be up for grabs.

Wagner could go back to a lot of the starting lineup from the January 24 match against Leeds after making some changes to his Norwich starting lineup the previous game.

Both Christian Fassnacht and Ashley Barnes might start ahead of Borja Sainz in a creative capacity.

Ben Sheaf’s forced substitution against Bristol City earlier in the week gave Coventry a hit in terms of injuries.

Ellis Simms might start over Matt Godden in the midfield after his goal in the previous week, but Victor Torp is most likely to enter the game as a straight substitution in the midfield.

If Robins decides to further rotate his squad, Joel Latibeaudiere is a viable option at right or center back.
