Tuesday night, the Nuggets upset the Spurs, 110-105, thanks to 42 points, 16 rebounds, and six assists from Nikola Jokic.

Notably, in his tenth NBA season, Jokic has now scored 13,978 points while representing the Nuggets, moving him up to third place in the team’s history after Carmelo Anthony (13,970 points). Over the course of his seven-year tenure in Denver, Carmelo averaged 6.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 24.8 points (46% FG).

Jokic played in 105 more games than Anthony over their careers while wearing the No. 15 Nuggets jersey, but he also had 1,200 fewer shots taken. All things considered, Carmelo still holds the 10th-best point total in NBA history after scoring 28,289 points during his career.

The Serbian center now trails just the Nuggets’ all-time leading scorers, Alex English (21,645) and Dan Issel (14,659).

Victor Wembanyama of the Spurs nearly achieved a quadruple-double with 23 points, 15 rebounds, and 8 assists. He also made a statement on defense with nine blocks, or as Jokic put it in jest, “He had like 600 blocks tonight, but we got the win.” As of right now, the front-runner for Rookie of the Year title is averaging 21.2 points (46.4% FG; 31.9% 3-PT), 10.5 rebounds, and 3.5 blocks per game.

Jokic outperformed Wembanyama offensively, going 18 for 32 from the field and making twice as many shots as the latter, who was just 9 for 29. The 20-year-old, however, was still competitive against the two-time NBA MVP.

“All right, it makes sense. Because Nikola is the best, Victor earned a lot of respect tonight, said to Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. Victor’s desire to protect him and educate himself was a true indication of his high standards for himself. As I mentioned earlier, it shows a lot to take on Nikola. And every minute he learns something new.

The Nuggets (53-23) are now leading the Western Conference after their victory tonight, with the Thunder (52-23) and Timberwolves (52-23) trailing by only a half-game. Fans will get to see another face-off between Jokic and Wemby when the Spurs, who have the worst record in the West, rematch the reigning champions in San Antonio on April 12.
