Vince Carter, a former Toronto Raptor, is the class president of the 2024 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame class.

For over twenty years, Vince Carter dazzled the basketball world with his spectacular dunks. The Detroit Pistons’ clutch guard and MVP of the Finals was Chauncey Billups.

Two basketball legends from the 2000s are inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

Jerry West, a former executive with the Lakers, Grizzlies, and Warriors, was among the 13 inducted on Saturday. West was previously honored as an Olympic player and member of the 1960 U.S. squad. Broadcaster/coach Doug Collins, owner Herb Simon, coaches Charles Smith, Harley Redin, and Bo Ryan, and players Seimone Augustus, Michael Cooper, Walter Davis, Dick Barnett, and Michele Timms are also in the class.

August will see the induction of the 2024 class into Springfield, Massachusetts’s Hall of Fame.

Carter, 47, won the NBA Rookie of the Year award in 1999 while playing for the Toronto Raptors. He is an eight-time All-Star. Playing 22 seasons (opens in a new tab) for the Raptors, Nets, Mavericks, Grizzlies, Hawks, Magic, Kings, and Suns, he had the longest career in NBA history. With 25,728 career points, he finished 21st in league history.

Coach Dean Smith coached him while he was a college player at North Carolina.

The 6-foot-6 guard was a valuable player well into his 40s, hanging with guys half his age due to his legendary durability in the game. In his final season with the Hawks, he averaged five points over sixty games at the age of forty-three.

Billups, 47, won an NBA championship with the Detroit Pistons in 2004 and was a five-time All-Star. In addition, he was named the Finals MVP that year. He currently coaches the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Boston Celtics selected Billups third overall in the 1997 NBA Draft, but he took a while to get going in his professional career. After a while, he settled in Detroit and, in his tenth season, was selected to his first All-Star squad.

As a member of the balanced Pistons squad in the 2004 Finals, which also featured Ben Wallace, Rasheed Wallace, Tayshaun Prince, and Richard Hamilton, Billups averaged 21 points and 5.2 assists per game. For the championship, they defeated the Lakers in five games.

West, who is 85 years old, was admitted as a contributor. In 1980, the 14-time All-Star received his player’s induction. He served as general manager of the Memphis Grizzlies and an executive with the Golden State Warriors in addition to spending more than 20 years working as an executive for the Los Angeles Lakers, where he helped the team win eight championships between 1980 and 2002.

Augustus, 39, won four WNBA championships while playing with the Minnesota Lynx. While attending LSU for his college career, the 6-foot-0 guard helped the team to three Final Fours. With 6,005 career points, she is ranked 13th in WNBA history.
