Vontae Davis, a former NFL cornerback, was discovered deceased at his Florida home.

Police discovered veteran NFL cornerback Vontae Davis dead at his South Florida home on Monday. Davis famously retired during halftime of his final game while playing for the Indianapolis Colts and was a two-time Pro Bowler.

Vontae Davis played 10 years in the NFL for the Indianapolis Colts and two other teams.

According to the Davie Police Department, when officers arrived at the Southwest Ranches residence after receiving a call from a house aide, they discovered Davis deceased. Police said that preliminary evidence does not point to foul play, and the investigation is ongoing.

The death is being looked into by the office of the Broward County medical examiner.

Over the course of a ten-year career, Davis, 35, participated in 121 games with the Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins, and Colts, amassing 97 pass deflections and 22 interceptions.

Illinois was his collegiate football team, and the Dolphins selected him with

the 25th selection in the 2009 NFL Draft’s first round. Before being traded to the Indianapolis Colts for a second-round pick, he spent three seasons as a player for Miami. The heated discussion between Davis and then-general manager Jeff Ireland on the deal was shown on the HBO series “Hard Knocks,” which was following the Dolphins team at the time. This exchange provided insight into the league’s personal stakes.

On Monday, the three teams he played for and the NFL each sent their condolences.

The news of Vontae Davis’s demise has devastated the NFL. The NFL remarked, “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.”

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of former Dolphins wide receiver Vontae Davis and offer our sincere sympathies to his loved ones.”

The Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, posted on X, saying, “Very saddened to hear of Vontae Davis’s passing.” “A terrific man, player, and comrade. I will be praying for Vontae’s family.

“We are deeply saddened by the news of Vontae Davis’s passing,” the Bills released a statement. We are keeping his loved ones, family, and friends in our thoughts at thisa challenging moment.
