The NHL’s Utah team ownership, headed by Ryan Smith of Smith Entertainment Group, has provided fans with 20 options to vote on for the franchise’s new name, as per a survey distributed on Wednesday. Smith emphasized that the team’s name will begin with “Utah,” with the inaugural season featuring jerseys bearing the state’s name.

The final name, logo, and colors will be unveiled for the 2025-26 season following collaboration with branding company Doubleday & Cartwright. Smith views the team as a community asset, highlighting the importance of fan input in the naming process, acknowledging the enthusiastic support from Utah since the franchise was awarded less than three weeks ago.

The options available for selection include Frost, Ice, Powder, Mountaineers, Freeze, Mammoth, Black Diamonds, Blast, Caribou, Blizzard, Swarm, Hive, Outlaws, Yeti, Squall, Fury, Glaciers, Canyons, Venom, and HC (Hockey Club). Smith Entertainment Group (SEG) acquired the Arizona Coyotes from former owner Alex Meruelo for $1.2 billion and relocated the team to Salt Lake City.

The team, named Utah, will commence play in the downtown arena, Delta Center, shared with the NBA’s Utah Jazz. Despite participating in the NHL draft lottery, Utah retained the sixth pick, with San Jose emerging as the winner of the lottery held on Tuesday night.
