Warriors vs. Rabbitohs: Martin, CNK, and Mitchell enter; Mitchell leaves

The Warriors, who have been playing well over the past two weeks, will be the visitors the Rabbitohs’ opponent after a relieving opening victory last Friday.

On Good Friday, South Sydney defeated the Bulldogs 20-16 despite putting on a far from flawless performance. They won all but two of their 36 sets with the ball, but they still fell short in a number of important statistical areas.

In the meantime, the Warriors secured their second victory of the year in a tough 20–12 victory over the Knights in Auckland, thanks to yet another solid defensive performance that saw only two tries allowed—both of which came from kickoffs.

Last season, South Sydney easily defeated the Warriors in their only match to increase their winning streak against the Kiwi team to eight games.

The Rabbitohs have won eight of their last ten games at Accor Stadium, whereas the Warriors have only played there twice in the previous four years, winning both of those matches against the Bulldogs.

Team News: The Rabbitohs’ Izaac Tu’itupou Thompson starts in an otherwise-unaltered backline as winger Alex Johnston, who has been sidelined due to a hamstring injury, is replaced. Michael Chee-Kam is once again on the bench, and Jacob Host stays in the back row. With Lachlan Ilias still in the reserves, Dean Hawkins will don the No. 7 jersey for the third time in a row.

Warriors: After recovering from a hamstring injury, Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad is named for the first time in 2024, moving Roger Tuivasa-Sheck back to center for his 200th game. At five-eighth, Te Maire Martin, an experienced player, replaces the injured Luke Metcalf; Chanel Harris-Tavita is listed in the wider reserves. Kurt Capewell (concussion protocol) is replaced by Marata Niukore in the starting lineup, with Tom Ale and Freddy Lussick joining him on the bench.
