Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, former Duke basketball standouts, have played together for the New Orleans Pelicans since the 2019-20 season. During that year, the Pelicans made NBA history by having five former Duke players on their roster, which included JJ Redick, Jahlil Okafor, and Frank Jackson. However, with Redick retiring after the 2020-21 season, Ingram and Williamson remain as the sole representatives of the Blue Devils in New Orleans, albeit now sharing the spotlight with CJ McCollum.

There’s talk of potential changes this offseason for the New Orleans Pelicans, who, after being swept by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Playoffs’ first round, might end up with only one Duke basketball alum, 23-year-old Zion Williamson, the top pick in 2019. However, there’s a chance for another Blue Devil addition through free agency, trades, or the NBA Draft. NBA insider Evan Sidery reported that the Pelicans aren’t expected to extend Brandon Ingram’s contract this offseason.

Instead, they seem to prioritize rookie Trey Murphy III as their future wing, potentially leaving room to pair another star with Williamson using Ingram’s salary and draft assets. Ingram, originally from Kinston, N.C., joined the Pelicans after three seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers, consistently averaging over 20 points per game during his five-year tenure with the team, but his 20.8 points this season marked his lowest in New Orleans.
