Week 1 Matchup: Falcons Former Head Coach to Face His Old Team

Published

on

In Week 1, the former head coach of the Falcons will make a return to Atlanta, this time as the Pittsburgh Steelers’ offensive coordinator.

SUMMARY

This summer, the Falcons signed Kirk Cousins, selected a quarterback in the draft, and hired a new coach.

The Steelers acquired Justin Fields through trade, and they signed Russell Wilson, updating their quarterback room.

With the 2023 season behind them, both teams aim to raise their offensive rankings.

One of the most fascinating teams to watch this summer is the Atlanta Falcons. They started by replacing Arthur Smith, who became the offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers, with Raheem Morris as their new coach. They signed the best quarterback available in free agency when Kirk Cousins was available.

Ultimately, they selected Michael Penix Jr. ninth overall in the first round of the draft, which was the most unexpected choice of the day, to sit behind Cousins.

According to Zach Klein of WSB-Ch.2 in Atlanta, the Falcons will now be welcoming back their old head coach in Week 1 as he stands on the opposing sideline.
