Despite their recent success, including a Super Bowl win in 2022 and a postseason appearance last season, there’s uncertainty surrounding how much longer Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will continue to play. With no guarantee on his remaining years in the league, the Rams are faced with considering their long-term strategy.

Head coach Sean McVay affirmed that while the team would love to have Stafford for as long as he desires to play, they are approaching the situation one year at a time. McVay shared these thoughts during an appearance on SiriusXM Mad Dog Sports Radio with Adam Schein.

“We were taking it a year at a time, but as long as he wants to play, we’re fortunate to have him as our quarterback,” said McVay.

Stafford played a pivotal role in the Rams’ Super Bowl victory in 2022, which earned him the respect to dictate his future in the league. Despite questions about his longevity, Stafford showcased his impact by delivering a strong performance last season, throwing for 3,965 yards with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, guiding the Rams to an unexpected playoff berth.

As the upcoming season approaches, Stafford will need to demonstrate his abilities once again. While the expectation is that he will continue to excel, the Rams are wise to explore all potential options, ensuring they have a solid plan in place for the future. While Stafford hasn’t disclosed his retirement plans, the Rams are actively assessing their alternatives.
