West Coast Eagles are supporting Elliot Yeo to play against Hawthorn, despite the recent passing of his father earlier in the week. They have named all their emergencies to participate in the WAFL. Meanwhile, uncertainty surrounds the composition of Sam Mitchell’s team, particularly with Finn Maginness, known for his tagging role, not being included in the initial lineup but traveling as an emergency. He was also absent from Box Hill’s VFL team. Yeo has been listed by the Eagles for the Optus Stadium clash on Sunday, with the team allowing him ample time to determine his readiness to compete. Although a final decision may be made on the morning of the game, West Coast has designated their three emergencies — Andrew Gaff, Harry Edwards, and Jack Hutchinson — to play in the WAFL alongside 16 other AFL-listed players set to face Swan Districts earlier in the day.

“We’re really trying to support Elliot through this tragic situation,” Simpson stated. “He came by the club yesterday morning, and he’s here again today (Friday). We’ll observe how he handles the Captain’s Run, and we’ll wait until the last possible moment before the game to decide on his participation.

“If he doesn’t feel ready for it, then he won’t play. It’s entirely up to Elliot, how he’s coping and managing his family matters.”

Eagles supporters are anticipating Reid’s comeback after a two-game suspension flanking the bye. However, there may be added focus on him again if Maginness joins late.

Simpson hinted at a strategy for Reid to counter the tag by spending more time forward.

“They have a formidable midfield themselves. They rank highly in many statistical categories at stoppages, so they’ll trust their system,” he added.

and Jack Hutchinson — to play in the WAFL alongside 16 other AFL-listed players set to face Swan Districts earlier in the day.

“If they target him, it’s a learning opportunity for him, as it was the last time he faced it. It’s not new for him, and we need to find ways to involve him in the game. His versatility in playing forward gives us options to explore.

“Being tagged is likely to happen again, especially if he starts performing exceptionally well.”
