INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

What are the chances that the Colts actually stay at pick 15 in the 2024 NFL draft?

Chris Ballard has acknowledged his fondness for draft selections. The draft is like a dart board to him. Your chances of hitting on a player increase with the number of darts you possess. This year, the Indianapolis Colts will have seven picks total—one pick in each round. That doesn’t seem like it would please Ballard and the others, in my opinion. Ballard will definitely work out a deal to move down in the draft in order to obtain additional picks, and I have no doubts about that, but I’m not sure if he will do it in the first round. At best, the history on that is contradictory.

Since the beginning of Ballard’s employment, he has been inconsistent with

the initial round. He isn’t scared to be generous, unlike in free agency, having used two first-round picks to acquire players he believed could strengthen the team. When he struck a deal with the 49ers in 2020 to acquire DeForest Buckner, he was correct. Since joining the club, Buckner has led by example and become a formidable player. He really has made a difference. Sadly, Ballard made a mistake when he sent Carson Wentz for what ended up being a first-round pick. Wentz wasn’t the solution as quarterback, despite the fact that I have seen worse.

Despite his fondness for trading back, Ballard has only done it twice in the opening round. 2018 saw him execute a brilliant transaction with

the Jets to revert three spots, pick Quenton Nelson, and acquire a large amount of draft money. In 2019, he made another trade with the Redskins. Rock Ya Sin was the first player off the board for the Colts as a result of the transaction. The team remained in place for three years: under Maliki Hooker in 2017; under Kwity Paye in 2021; and under Anthony Richardson in 2023.

We should take a close look at the 49ers’ desperate need for another game-winning play.

The date is January 14, 2012. We are in San Francisco at Candlestick Park. The 49ers need a touchdown with 14 seconds remaining, down three, and facing a third down to maintain their hopes of making the playoffs without having to go to OT. The

The Saints, meanwhile, can take a lesson from this and move on to the NFC Championship Game. We need to look back in time to comprehend how we got here and to fully appreciate what this moment signifies.

This demonstrates that Ballard does not strictly enforce any rules on drafting. He will take the player if he is available and the Colts want him. He will make the move if they believe they can still acquire their guy later or if they have several players inside a particular range that they are comfortable with. When drafting, it is necessary to have that flexibility. While you should be willing and open to acquiring more “darts,” you shouldn’t pass up a player who you think would improve you in the process.

The draft board makes the decisions.so much so that it is difficult to formulate a plausible forecast. Expect the Colts to use the selection if there is a run at a position that is above their need and a blue chip player falls. I have no doubt that they will act if they are considering a deep positional class and believe there will be sufficient value later in the first or early second round. This idea is not brand-new. It’s only common sense. Even though it bothers me to stay up late watching the Colts pick only to have them revert, I have to have faith in their procedure and the team’s pre-draft preparation in order to make the greatest decision. Not each initial

round choice or trade is a home run, but at least I know they won’t hesitate to take the action they feel is best in the long term.
