What Deion Sanders and Buffs defensive coordinator had to say about BYU ahead of the Alamo Bowl showdown
As the Colorado Buffaloes gear up for the Alamo Bowl on December 28, head coach Deion Sanders, famously known as “Coach Prime,” has high praise for their opponents, the BYU Cougars, and their head coach, Kalani Sitake. The matchup, considered one of the most exciting postseason games outside the College Football Playoff, will see two ranked teams collide under the bright lights of the Alamodome.
Sanders acknowledged BYU’s rich football history and highlighted Sitake’s leadership. “I adore him. He’s a man of God and a phenomenal coach who has done incredible things this season,” Sanders remarked. Their relationship extends beyond the field, with Sanders expressing admiration for Sitake’s ability to inspire his team to consistent success.
On the field, Sanders and his coaching staff, including defensive coordinator Robert Livingston, recognize BYU’s strengths, especially their discipline and versatility. Sanders emphasized that the Cougars are not being underestimated. “They’re a disciplined team that runs and throws the ball well, defends with tenacity, and works hard. We know they’re coming,” he said.
BYU, led by quarterback Jake Retzlaff, presents challenges for Colorado’s defense. Livingston noted Retzlaff’s knack for extending plays and BYU’s robust stable of running backs and agile wide receivers. “They play with attitude and pose a phenomenal challenge,” he stated, expressing enthusiasm for the test ahead.
As the game approaches, Sanders has assured fans that the Buffaloes are focused and ready to play “Buff football.” With stars like Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders eager to shine, Colorado is set on ending their season on a high note. Meanwhile, the Cougars, boasting a strong 10-2 record, aim to solidify their place as a top-tier Big 12 competitor.
The highly anticipated clash will kick off at 5:30 p.m. MST and be broadcast live on ABC, showcasing two teams determined to leave their mark on this season’s bowl games.
