Why the Sheffield Wednesday goalie received a significant international call is because “everyone is looking.”

Michael O’Neill, the manager of Northern Ireland, claims that Pierce Charles, the goalkeeper for Sheffield Wednesday, is the kind that “everyone is looking for.” Charles, who debuted for the professional Owls in the FA Cup earlier this year, has received his first senior call-up to the national team. The teenager will go to Mallorca and Murcia next month to play friendly matches against Andorra and Spain. The 18-year-old has played for the Northern Irish at different youth levels throughout the years, but in a few weeks, he will hopefully get the chance to prove himself against the seniors. The NI boss thinks he merits the chance.

O’Neill informed the journalists, “We’ve known about Pierce for quite a while.” He performed admirably when playing for the 21s in Serbia. Tommy Wright, the U21 manager, achieved an excellent outcome by defeating a formidable and more experienced Serbian side while playing on the road in Serbia.

“In the current game, Pierce is the kind of goalie that everyone wants. He has excellent passing ability, maintains poise when the ball is at his feet, and we know Sheffield Wednesday thinks highly of him. “Considering the injury to Luke Southwood and the goalie balance, I don’t see much use in inserting an older goalie into that scenario. Pierce deserved to be given the chance, and his performance in Serbia played a significant role in that. Stephen or Pierce, and Stephen McMullan has prior experience.”

Charles, who is well-liked by Danny Röhl and the Middlewood Road academy staff, recently inked a new contract that will keep him at Hillsborough past the end of his old one, which expires in 2025.
