The Panthers wasted no time on the opening day of free agency, making significant offers to free-agent guards Robert Hunt and Damien Lewis. However, a slight issue arose as both players had previously worn jersey number 68 with their former teams (Hunt in Miami and Lewis in Seattle).
Since Hunt arrived first, he contemplated taking jersey number 68, previously worn by Cade Mays. However, after consulting with his partner and college friends, he decided to revert to the number 50, which he had worn at Louisiana-Lafayette.
“I discussed it with my lovely partner and some college buddies, and I felt like going back to the number 50,” explained Hunt. “Sometimes, it’s good to switch things up and be a bit unique. That’s distinctive. That’s cool.”
