As he prepares to make his 100th club appearance, superstar Bevan French has the potential to become a Wigan Warriors legend.

That’s according to his head coach, who complimented the reigning Man of Steel ahead of his personal milestone match against Hull KR. The 28-year-old stand-off or full-back recently pledged to staying at the DW Stadium until at least the end of the 2028 season, which would mean he would have played nearly ten full seasons in cherry and white after joining from the NRL in mid-2019. “We love him to bits,” said coach Matt Peet. “He has the potential to become a legend around here.

“But that’ll come by him turning up daily and applying himself, and that’s what he does.””He’s a pleasure to work with and very determined.”He obviously has incredible talent, but he’s also a wonderful person. “His family can be very proud of him, and I’m sure they are.”We’re also really proud of him, and to see how he’s grown his game over those 100 games, there have been some moments of brilliance, some difficulties to overcome, and I’m sure our supporters will agree that it’s been a joy to watch, and here’s to the next 100.”

French made his Super League debut from the bench against Friday’s opponents in 2019, rapidly establishing himself as an X-factor player in the game. He has now won every title with the Warriors, most notably being named man of the match in the historic World Club Challenge win. The Australian is now a member of the club’s leadership team, guiding the next generation of players via Wigan’s famous youth systems.

“He understands his responsibilities here and the ethos of this club, but I genuinely think it’s in line with his own values as well,” Peet said. “He is an ambassador, and he naturally pushes himself forward; he can speak and connect with people of different backgrounds and ages. “He is very easy to connect with, and this is how he leads.” “He promotes that team spirit and that fun among the lads, which rubs off on the young players and gives them the confidence to express themselves.”
