Will the Saints game on Saturday proceed in spite of the fire?

A football match between Southampton FC and another team is in jeopardy because of a nearby warehouse fire.

Yesterday afternoon, just after 1pm, there was a fire that tore through a warehouse that was in front of St Mary’s Stadium.

As a result, the scheduled game against Preston North End FC was rescheduled for tonight.

The Saints’ scheduled home match against Sunderland on Saturday may be postponed once more.

Before the stadium hosts Sunderland on Saturday, any smoke damage will be evaluated in the next few days.

Twitter has been used by supporters to inquire with the team on the status of Saturday’s game.

However, Saints now have to fit two games into the four remaining midweek windows before the season ends.

These open fixture slots are the midweeks of the following weeks: Monday, March 11, April 15, April 22, and April 29 (as reported by the Echo).

They have just thirty-six days to play their remaining ten games.

As a result, a number of roadways close to St. Mary’s Stadium are still closed today.

The region is urged to be avoided by drivers.

The Echo has made contact with Saints to inquire further about the impending game.

On Wednesday afternoon, plumes of smoke from the fire were visible as far away as Winchester and the Isle of Wight.

Emergency personnel were called to a scene in an industrial building next to Southampton Stadium’s Chapel stand.

For reasons of health and safety, the Preston North End match, which was scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m. that night, was postponed.
Although St. Mary’s Stadium is unaffected by the fire, the fan area nearest to the fire is still undetermined.

Workers are evaluating any smoke damage as of today (Thursday), after hours of smoke billowing into and over the stadium.

The club stated that it is too soon to make an official statement regarding the status of the match on Saturday due to ongoing assessments.

Those who are saints scheduled to host Sunderland on March 9 at 3 p.m. Right now, it’s the last game they have planned before the international break.

With 11 games remaining in their Championship campaign, Russell Martin’s team hopes to return to the Premier League.

With the Preston match still to be played, they are eight points out of the automatic promotion spots in fourth place in the division.
