The 2024 Italian Open proved disappointing for the top four ATP players, as Alexander Zverev, Nicolas Jarry, and Alejandro Tabilo made strides. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz withdrew due to injuries, while Novak Djokovic faced an unexpected early departure and defending champion Daniil Medvedev exited in the fourth round. Zverev and Jarry are set to compete in the men’s final, marking their seventh encounter with Zverev holding a 4-2 advantage.

Regarding ATP Rankings changes following the tournament, Sinner and Alcaraz will lose points due to their absence, and Djokovic’s loss in the third round will cost him points, narrowing the gap at the top. Medvedev suffered the biggest setback, dropping 900 points. Zverev’s advancement to the final has brought him within 300 points of Medvedev. Hurkacz and Tsitsipas will swap positions in the rankings.

Notable winners include Jarry, who will achieve a career-high ranking if he wins the final, and Tabilo, expected to reach a career-best spot after defeating Djokovic. Zhang Zhizhen and Thiago Monteiro also made significant advances in the rankings. Conversely, Fabian Marozsan and Borna Coric faced declines in their rankings due to early exits from the tournament.
