Wycombe Wanderers’ wealthy owner has been officially named one of the club’s directors.
Mikheil Lomtadze, who had been in contact with the club since the autumn of 2023, was confirmed as the Chairboys’ new owner on Friday, May 3, with an announcement made one day later [May 4]. The Georgian tycoon, who presently resides in Kazakhstan, has purchased the Couhig family’s 90% stake in Adams Park, bringing an end to their five-year ownership of the South Bucks franchise.
According to the Companies House website, Lomtadze, Eduard Vyshnyakov, and Dan Rice have been designated as directors. The formalities were completed by May 15. Following the sale earlier this month, Lomtadze stated: “To Wycombe fans, I do not and will not take lightly the responsibility of the Club in front of its fans, staff, and players. “Our goal is to achieve long-term success both on and off the field while also establishing a financially viable organization.
“The football world is changing very quickly, and our first priority will be to incorporate data analytics and technology to boost the Club’s performance to new heights. “I am also a strong believer in youth development and it will be fundamental to the Club’s vision.” The concept calls for the construction of a ‘world-class academy’ within the next three years. Wanderers are expected to help develop numerous quality players from the Eastern European/Central Asian country, as well as foster talent on local soil. Lomtadze stated: “It was my longing dream to create a world-class professional children’s football academy in Kazakhstan and England, where the best and most talented young football players and future stars will be trained.”
Finally, the club was sold by a law firm situated in the country’s south-west. Kitson Boyce LLP, based in Torquay, has also overseen the takeovers of other clubs in the EFL and National League. Cris Boyce, a partner at the law firm, told Insider Media Limited: “We are happy to have completed the purchase on behalf of Rob and his team, which will result in considerable future investment in Wycombe Wanderers. “It further demonstrates our ability to advise on strategic deals involving sellers and purchasers across international territories and timezones whilst growing our reputation with football clubs here in England.” Rob Couhig, former owner and newly appointed chairman, added: “When I first began looking into investing in English football, I was very fortunate that Cris Boyce and his firm were recommended to me.” “Cris has a unique perspective because he has firsthand experience co-owning a club. “I know that if I invest in another club, Cris will be my first call.”
