Yankees May Target An Astros Superstar in the Offseason According To Insider

Despite their current abundance of talent, the New York Yankees may make even more significant additions in the offseason. Obtaining Juan Soto, a former San Diego Padres standout, was perhaps the largest deal made by New York this winter.

Discovering a means to keep him in free agency after the season concludes will be the Yankees’ first concern all season. Aside from maybe bringing back Soto, the Yankees may end up making several significant transactions.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post has identified Alex Bregman, the standout player for the Houston Astros, as one player who could be involved.

However, I believe that now that Steve Cohen is engaged, the Mets and Yankees will be repeating their financial spat more regularly than they did during the Winfield to Yamamoto era. There have already been rumors that the New York teams will face up against Juan Soto in the dollar duel next offseason.

“And Alex Bregman is involved with one that I believe could be especially fascinating…At third, DJ LeMahieu excels as a defender. However, he is 35 years old. He has struggled with injury and a drop in production. The Yankees anticipate a resurgence in 2024. What if they don’t, though? Oswald Peraza isn’t considered a starter player by them, and no one in the minor leagues is even prepared to make an effort to compete for the job. Additionally, LeMahieu may have a fantastic season, move back to second base, and push the Yankees to third place in the market whenever Gleyber Torres hits free agency.”

While there’s no guarantee a deal will be reached, it’s intriguing that Bregman has already been floated as a potential Yankees acquisition. This is all just conjecture at this point, but if rumors about it get stronger over the season, perhaps something will happen in the offseason of the next year.
