Super League
A former Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC player is “set to sign” with a Super League team
Former Leeds Rhinos and Hull FC forward Leon Ruan is reportedly close to signing a deal with Super League club Hull Kingston Rovers, solidifying their roster for the 2025 season. After being released by Leeds at the conclusion of last season, Ruan has been training with the Robins on a trial basis and seems to have impressed head coach Willie Peters, who is expected to offer him a permanent spot.
If finalized, Ruan’s addition will bolster Hull KR’s depth in the forward pack, a critical component as the team prepares for a competitive Super League campaign. At just 21, Ruan brings potential and versatility, aligning with the club’s strategy to develop and strengthen its squad.
Ruan’s signing will mark Hull KR’s ninth off-season acquisition, following notable recruits such as Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Danny Richardson, and Rhyse Martin. Despite a modest record of 11 appearances and one try during his time at Leeds, Ruan’s physicality and experience from stints with Doncaster and Hull FC make him a valuable asset. In 2022, he was a standout performer for Doncaster in League One, appearing in 21 matches and scoring six tries.
Last season, Ruan made five appearances for Leeds before being loaned to Hull FC, where he featured in four matches, including one start. Although Hull FC struggled, Ruan’s performances showcased his resilience and adaptability. Now, with Hull KR, he has the opportunity to further refine his game and compete alongside established players such as Dean Hadley, James Batchelor, and Kelepi Tanginoa.
Hull KR continues to build an impressive lineup under Peters, with the team clearly focused on challenging for a strong Super League position in 2025. If Ruan’s signing is confirmed, the Robins will gain another young, promising talent eager to make his mark in the top tier.
